About the Event
Music is the heart language of the Church. It expresses faith in ways that stick, and it unites us in a shared beauty, passion, and praise. In retirement I’ve had more time to explore the gift of music in life and in church.
Jazz, I’ve found, is filled with possibilities. Its unique chords – major and minor fifths, sevenths, elevenths, thirteenths, and flat or sharp fives – create a sense of surprise and intrigue. And its rhythms draw you in, releasing excitement in the community. Rise Up! includes interesting jazz chord progressions, in various rhythms – one piece in 9/8. The lyrics are new, or are fresh versions of a couple familiar hymns. The tunes should feel both fascinating and singable.
